about

I started working on ‘It’ll Pass’ in January of 2019, not convinced the violin melody was something I actually wrote, as opposed to heard somewhere. I finished it in February 2020, while on a writing trip in Northern Idaho. It was very much written to and for myself, as a meditation on the truth of change being the only constant - ‘it’ll pass / oh, it’ll pass / oh i believe that it will pass.’ Little did I know it would prove to become that much more relevant in the coming months and years. I needed it then and I still need it now! It's also special because it is the only one on the record with a drum kit, played by Mike Hanf, and is structurally & sonically inspired by Andrew Bird’s ‘Pulaski at Night,’ a song I have always loved because of the way it made me feel - forward-moving, hopeful, warm.

lyrics

In the morning, in the morning
On the morning of the last day of your life
I will greet you, speak to you
Say, I’m glad you’re healing and you’re putting up a fight
And it’ll pass, oh it’ll pass
In the morning you will see that it will pass

I’ve been seeing, I’ve been seeing
That underneath it all I’m just afraid of joy
And I’m an addict to this feeling
It doesn’t mean that I don’t deserve to be loved
And it’ll pass, oh it’ll pass
Oh, I believe that it will pass

Oh, it’ll pass, oh it’ll pass
Oh, I believe that it will pass
Oh, i’ll pass, oh!
Oh, I believe that it will pass

In the morning, in the morning
In the morning you will see that it has passed
