about
"Nightswims" explores the difficulties of creating and sustaining intimacy in a digitalized, isolated, and exhausting world. It expresses the disappointment, rage, and sadness I feel about the realities of living in America, which have only gotten worse since writing the song in 2016. It’s an acknowledgement that we are in pain, we are in trouble, and we will only get through it together.
lyrics
One week and you’re brand new
Arms length and on the move
But clear eyes belong to the fool
And fair skies are black and blue
Well I don’t have faith
Do you blame me?
Well I don’t have faith
Will you tame me?
Take a risk on me
Take a chance on me
Take a risk for me
Take a chance for me
Ten weeks and mining for clues
Little by little by little I lose
You with your eyes on the bruise
And nightswims in blacks and blues
Well I don’t have faith
Do you blame me?
Well I don’t have faith
Will you tame me?
Take a risk on me
Take a chance on me
Take a risk for me
Take a chance for me
